It is the sink for mobile zones of gravel, sand and mud that migrate northwards off northeastern South Island, New Zealand. It is presently the primary source for the km long Hikurangi Channel, which supplies overbank turbidites to a filled trench, an ocean-plateau basin and a distal fan-drift. Swath data, seismic profiles, side-scan sonographs, aerial photographs, cores, grab samples and current meter data are used to define the shape and texture of the canyon and adjacent shelf in order to better understand how coastal processes and canyon interact to supply sediment to the deep-ocean. Kaikoura Canyon is 60 km long, up to m deep and generally U-shaped in profile. Its head is within m of the shore, and within m of rocky projections from the shore-platform, in a mountain-backed bay without large rivers. The canyon head incises the 18 m depth contour and boulders, pebble gravel and megarippled coarse sand reach the canyon rim. Fine sand migrating northward along the shelf under the influence of waves and currents is trapped in a southward-projecting, canyon-head gully, which incises the thickest part of the Holocene sediment prism. It is estimated that about 1. Tensional fractures around the canyon rim suggest that sediments in the canyon-head gully are unstable. Gravel turbidites, with post last glacial age shells, are at or near the seabed in the lower canyon but are blanketed by many thin, silt and sand, possibly storm-generated, turbidites in the upper canyon.

Are you planning to travel solo? This is based on my personal experience and life story. We both want to buy land to build our very own yoga resort in the Philippines. Also, if you travel in mostly Asian countries, having a Filipino passport has way more advantage than his, he has to pay more than me! Why do you care? If I was looking for a sugar daddy, I must have been blinded by that magic white skin again! I even had five freelance jobs at the same time in Hanoi, Vietnam as we wanted to save more than ever!

I taught English, yoga classes to children and even handled the Marketing Department of a western-owned company while in Vietnam, oh did I mention that I won a Vietnamese reality TV show? He works, I work. He saves, I save. I want to be modest here, but straight to the point. Well, if you think so, shame on you!

History of Fall River, Massachusetts Colonial period to s[ edit ] At the time of the establishment of the Plymouth Colony in , the area that would one day become Troy City was inhabited by the Pokanoket Wampanoag tribe, headquartered at Mount Hope in what is now Bristol, Rhode Island. The “falling” river that the name Fall River refers to is the Quequechan River pronounced “quick-a-shan” by locals which flows through the city, dropping steeply into the bay.

The portion west of Plymouth Avenue was routed underground through a series of box culverts, while much of the eastern section “mill pond” was filled in for the highway embankment. In , Freetown was settled at Assonet Bay by members of the Plymouth Colony, as part of Freeman’s Purchase, which included the northern part of what is now Fall River. In , Freetown was incorporated as a town within the colony. The southern part of what is now Fall River was incorporated as the town of Tiverton as part of the Massachusetts Bay Colony in , a few years after the merger with Plymouth Colony.

The boundary was then placed approximately at what is now Columbia Street. In , Benjamin Church, a hero of King Philip’s War established a saw mill , grist mill , and a fulling mill on the Quequechan River. In , Church sold his land, along with the water rights to Richard Borden of Tiverton and his brother Joseph. This transaction would prove to be extremely valuable years later, helping to establish the Borden family as the leaders in the development of Fall River’s textile industry.

During the 18th century the area consisted mostly of small farms and relatively few inhabitants. In , the Battle of Freetown , was fought here during the American Revolutionary War after British raids badly damaged Bristol and Warren. The militia of Fall River, at that time known as Freetown, put up a stronger defense against a British force.

Subsequent sections will flesh out the details, also in chronological order. The mobile belt added to the continent during this time is known as the Colorado Province. The Dalradian is a mid-Neoproterozoic to early-Ordovician sequence of largely clastic metasedimentary rocks, with some volcanic units, which were deformed and metamorphosed to varying degrees during the Early Palaeozoic Caledonian Orogeny. Sedimentation of the lower parts of the Dalradian Supergroup, possibly commencing about million years ago, took place initially in fault-bounded rift basins, within the supercontinent of Rodinia and adjacent to sectors of continental crust that were later to become the foundations of North America, Greenland and Scandinavia.

Later sedimentation reflected increased instability, culminating between and million years ago in continental rupture, volcanicity and the development of the Iapetus Ocean. This left the crustal foundations of Scotland, together with those of North America and Greenland, on a laterally extensive passive margin to the new continent of Laurentia, where turbiditic sedimentation continued for about 85 million years.

Later plate movements led to closure of the Iapetus Ocean and the multi-event Caledonian Orogeny. Most of the deformation and metamorphism of the Dalradian strata peaked at about million years ago, during the mid-Ordovician Grampian Event, which has been attributed to the collision of an oceanic arc with Laurentia. The later, mid-Silurian Scandian Event, attributed to the collision of the continent of Baltica with Laurentia and the final closure of the Iapetus Ocean, apparently had little effect on the Dalradian rocks but marked the start of late-orogenic uplift and extensive magmatism in the Grampian Highlands that continued until Early Devonian times.

The Dalradian rocks thus record a wide range of sedimentary environments alluvial, tidal, deltaic, shallow marine, turbiditic, debris flow and a complex structural and metamorphic history. In areas of low strain, original sedimentary and volcanic structures are well preserved, even at relatively high metamorphic grades. There is convincing evidence for glacial episodes of worldwide importance and economic deposits of stratiform barium minerals are unique. The Grampian Highlands include two of the World’s type-areas for metamorphic zonation, Barrovian and Buchan, with spectacular examples of the key metamorphic minerals, and various stages of migmatite development.

Polyphase folding is widespread on all scales and gives rise to a range of associated cleavages and lineations. Regional dislocations, both ductile and brittle, are associated with a range of shear fabrics, breccias, clay gouges and veining.
